Rooted in the music of his native Puerto Rico, and influenced by heavy progressive house sounds, DJ Luis Perez is quickly becoming one of America’s hottest gay entertainers, spinning his fresh beats from venues like The House of Blues in San Diego to the live television broadcast of the 2009 Miss California USA pageant. In 2008 and 2009, he was hand-picked to DJ the national finals of America’s Gay Bachelor contest, presented by MyPartner.com
Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, DJ Luis Perez grew up on the east coast and started spinning early, dropping beats for his rapper friends while still in high school.
Now he’s spinning his own unique brand of mixes. Perez creates a big sound, merging anthems with tribal rhythms, feeling the crowd and building the energy slow and steady. He likes to get his crowds up, lead them to a musical ledge, gets them to jump, and finally help them to soar with a loud and original mix of synths and drums.
“My goal is to get everyone up and dancing,” he says. “It doesn’t matter if I’m spinning at a huge Gay Pride party or an intimate dance club. I am going to play something to get you moving. Maybe you know the song, maybe you don’t. But I’m going to put an irresistible beat behind it that will get to you. It’s going to happen.”
A versatile entertainer, DJ Luis Perez adapts his sounds to the audiences and events he plays for, though he specializes in Hi NRG, Tribal House, Circuit and Progressive. Whatever he’s spinning, you can guarantee it’s going to be positive and upbeat, providing a totally unique and entertaining experience on the dance floor.
In addition to state and national events, he has also spun for gay Pride events in Southern California and at noted hotspots like The Show in Palm Springs, SPIN nightclub, Universal Hillcrest, Sidebar and Pool parties for Guys Like US.
Based in San Diego, DJ Luis Perez is currently the DJ in residence at SPIN nightclub and Rich’s San Diego.
